Kaylula Malika Cot and Bamboo mattress package review

The $1,399 Malika Bamboo package offers drop-side access and a toddler kit. We check its 145 cm frame, finish options and value against the Kaylula Rumi.

The trade-off

At $1,399, the package needs to do more for you than include a mattress. Less expensive Babyhood bundles use the same mattress family. Compare complete delivered orders and the conversion hardware you need before treating the premium as evidence of better everyday performance.

The Kaylula Malika is a premium-positioned cot with beechwood end accents, an internal drop side and a toddler conversion kit described on its standalone product page. The Bamboo Breathe Eze mattress packages list at $1,399 in both Driftwood and White/Natural, checked 7 October 2026.

The useful question is what the higher furniture price buys you. The mattress is a familiar component elsewhere in Babyhood’s range; the Malika’s furniture design, access and conversion kit need to justify the difference. This is an unscored specification assessment. We have not assembled or operated the cot.

The short answer

Consider the Malika if the drop side is useful to you, its frame suits the room and you intend to keep it through toddler use. Confirm the conversion kit is supplied in your chosen package.

Compare it directly with the Rumi package at the same starting price. Try the access arrangement on both at a floor model before allowing the finish to decide the purchase.

The two finishes

The Driftwood bundle and White/Natural bundle each list a cot and Bamboo Breathe Eze Innerspring Mattress. A finish variant is not a separately assessed mechanism or frame.

The White/Natural cot specification publishes an external size of 145 × 75 × 100 cm and a recommended mattress of 1295 × 690 × 100 mm. It describes two base positions, a single-hand internal drop side and an included toddler-bed conversion kit. Confirm equivalent components for the Driftwood order.

The case for it

The conversion kit is identified rather than left as a vague promise of later use. That is helpful if you want to keep the same furniture through the transition out of cot mode. Keep the parts, instructions and purchase receipt together from the beginning.

The drop side supplies a reason to compare the Malika beyond appearance. Ask the seller to demonstrate it with the base in its lower position. You are checking your reach and the stated operating sequence, not simply watching a sales demonstration from across the room.

The rectangular mattress format is also straightforward to identify. Our Bamboo mattress review covers the larger 1295 × 690 mm product. Make sure that exact size and model appear on the bundle order rather than assuming all Babyhood mattresses are interchangeable.

The case against it

At $1,399, the package needs to do more for you than include a mattress. Less expensive Babyhood bundles use the same mattress family. Compare complete delivered orders and the conversion hardware you need before treating the premium as evidence of better everyday performance.

The 145 cm frame also requires a room plan. It is not enough for the cot to fit between two walls. You need useful access to the drop side and space to use other furniture. A dresser bought to match the Malika is a separate purchase with a separate footprint.

Beechwood accents establish a published material detail, not measured durability. We have not verified coating wear, fastening quality or mechanism lifespan. Ask to inspect a floor model and read the current manual. A premium label does not answer those questions.

How it compares

The Kaylula Rumi Bamboo package starts at $1,399 and its standalone cot page gives a shorter 136 cm length. It also expressly includes toddler conversion parts. Compare the access arrangement and material descriptions alongside the design; Rumi’s own page contains inconsistent timber wording worth resolving.

The Georgia Sleigh package is $829 at the checked date. Its style is different, but its current cot page also describes a drop side and toddler rail. The comparison makes clear that those features alone do not explain the Malika’s price.

Our existing Bella and Mila assessments cover other Kaylula designs. Use their evidence and trade-offs as research; their older review prices are not today’s Malika alternatives quote.

Before you order

Get a written list of conversion parts, confirm the supplied cot version and compare delivery arrangements. Use our cot standards guide and mattress fit guide when checking the manual and supplied mattress.

The Malika has no canonical Bench Score in our published data. The absence of a numerical rating keeps this evidence review separate from the scored group assessment; it does not imply the cot failed a test.

Verdict

The Malika makes sense when its specific furniture design and drop-side access suit the way you will use the nursery. The conversion kit is a practical strength if confirmed in the bundle. The price needs a direct comparison with the Rumi and less expensive timber packages before you commit.
