The Baby Bench exists because buying baby gear in Australia is unusually hard to do well. The products are expensive, you buy most of them once, before the thing you are buying for has arrived, and the reviews you find are mostly retailers describing their own stock.
What we do
We assess baby gear sold in Australia against fixed criteria, published before assessment begins, and score it out of 10. We cover prams, cots, bassinets, high chairs, nursing chairs, cot mattresses, monitors and porta cots. Prices are Australian, and a criterion in most categories is whether you can actually get a spare part in this country.
What we do not claim
We have not physically tested these products. Every assessment currently on the site is specification-based, and every page says so. We would rather publish a limited claim that is true than a confident one that is not. The methodology page sets out exactly how a score is reached.
Who publishes it
The Baby Bench is owned and published by Xpand Digital Pty Ltd, an Australian marketing agency. Babyhood, a baby goods brand, is a client of that agency. Babyhood products are assessed on the same published criteria as every other brand, and are never placed above a product that scores higher. That relationship is disclosed on every page of this site, and set out in full in the editorial policy.
Corrections
If a figure on this site is wrong, we want to fix it. Specifications change, prices move, and manufacturers update products without renaming them. Corrections are made to the article itself and the assessment date updated.
