The case for it
Clear panels increase sightlines through the cot and create a visually open nursery. The drop side addresses reach, while two base positions handle the change from a non-mobile newborn to a child who can sit or stand. Including the toddler rail is better than advertising conversion through an unpriced future part.
Australian parts and service is the strongest part of the assessment. Babyhood publishes local contact routes and supports a long-running cot range. That matters when a drop-side component or conversion fitting is needed years after purchase.
The case against it
The score does not reward appearance twice. Acrylic and beech may look distinctive, but the package’s functional conversion stops at toddler-bed use and the current price is high beside strong timber cot-and-mattress packages. Published assembly detail is also limited, so we cannot assess panel alignment, long-term scratching or hardware access from the page alone.
Clear acrylic will show dust, fingerprints and fine marks more readily than rails. That is not a safety criticism, but it is part of daily ownership and should be inspected on a showroom model.
Before you buy
Ask the retailer to demonstrate the drop side repeatedly and inspect the acrylic in strong side light. Fine surface marks, panel flex and hardware alignment are easier to judge in person than through nursery photography. Confirm the approved cleaning method before using sprays or abrasive cloths on the panels.
Measure the assembled cot, not the shipping carton dimensions, and verify the mattress model and fit inside the exact package supplied. Keep the toddler conversion pieces, fasteners and instructions together from day one. Replacement access is a strength of the brand, but labelled original hardware is still the easiest conversion kit to find two years later.
Verdict
The Bella is a design-led cot with excellent local support and an honest 6.6 score. It can be the right purchase for a particular nursery, but it is not the rational category leader. The premium buys a specific transparent look more than extra years of conversion.
