Sixteen bassinets sold in Australia were assessed on their published specifications and ranked on five criteria: sleep safety design, breathability and airflow, portability, build, and value. Nothing here has been hand-tested. Every figure comes from the manufacturer or the Australian retailer listing, and prices are the lowest listed Australian retail as at 30 July 2026.
The top ten follow. Four are bedside co-sleepers. Two are stroller bassinets, labelled as such, because a bassinet that clips to a pram frame is no substitute for a bed you can reach from your pillow at 3am. If a pram is the actual purchase, start with the pram field instead.

Where two products tie on the Bench Score, the cheaper one takes the higher place.
1. BabyRest Alfie2 Bedside Bassinet Beige Walnut
$379. Award: Best overall.
The Alfie2 is the only product in this field whose listing states compliance with the Consumer Goods (Infant Sleep Products) Safety and Information Standards 2024. That one line does more work than any other sentence on any other spec sheet here. Rivals at the same money say nothing about certification at all.
The rest reads well without it. All-round mesh sides, a mesh safety panel below the drop-down side so there is no solid gap where the bassinet meets your mattress, five height positions, bed attachment straps, lockable wheels, a firm mattress, an insect net and a travel bag. Birth to 9kg, three-year warranty, compact fold, $70 under the Snuzpod 5.
For. Names the 2024 standard, mesh on every side including under the drop-down, five heights, longest published warranty here. Against. The 9kg ceiling arrives quickly, and no assembled weight is published.

2. Snuzpod 5 Bedside Bassinet Sleeper
$449.
The bedside crib most other bedside cribs are copying, and the fifth generation still has the most complete package specification in the category. It is a 3-in-1: bedside mode with a zip-down wall, standalone crib, and a lift-off bassinet you can carry to another room. Wheels and a rocking stand are included rather than sold on.
Airflow earns the score. Dual-view mesh windows and a 3D mesh mattress are both specified, and the wooden frame carries removable washable fabrics, which matters more than it sounds when you are dealing with reflux at midnight. Snuz says it is tested and certified for overnight sleeping but does not name the Australian standard.
For. Dual mesh windows plus a 3D mesh mattress, rocking stand and wheels included, washable fabrics on timber. Against. $70 more than the higher-scoring Alfie2, and vaguer about which certification it holds.

3. ErgoPouch Easy Sleep Portable Bassinet V2 Ecru
$127.99. Award: Best value.
Not a bedside crib, and it does not pretend to be. It is a folding travel bassinet with a mesh body, a steel frame with high sides, and a snap safety lock. ErgoPouch specifies it for naps around the house, use on the go, and overnight sleep away from home.
The number that matters is $127.99, about a third of the price of the cheapest bedside crib here. The carry backpack is sized to fit an overhead locker, which decides whether you take it interstate or leave it behind. Build is the compromise: a steel frame with fabric sides will not feel like the Snuzpod’s timber, and you will notice.
For. $127.99, mesh body, high-sided steel frame with a snap lock, packs into a cabin-sized backpack. Against. Frame-and-fabric rather than furniture, and no bedside attachment, so it is a companion to a main sleep space. If travel is the whole brief, weigh it against the porta-cot field.

4. Babyhood Organic Breathe Eze Cosy Crib
$199.
Read the fine print, because Babyhood has been unusually plain about it. The Cosy Crib is specified for supervised rest and play, not standalone overnight sleep. If you are shopping for the thing your baby sleeps in all night, this is not it.
Taken as what it is, the specification is strong. The fibre core supporting airflow is independently tested, the covers are certified organic cotton, and the mattress is the same firm flat construction Babyhood uses in its bassinets and cradles. No incline, which the brand calls out as a chin-to-chest risk it designed out, no ties or clips, and the whole thing washes. At $199 it is the second cheapest product here, with Australian parts and service behind it.
For. Independently tested breathable fibre core, certified organic cotton, no incline, fully washable, $199. Against. Supervised rest only by the maker’s own specification, so it cannot be your only sleep surface.

5. Cocoon Breeze Co Sleeper Bassinet
$379.
Matched on price with the Alfie2 and specified along similar lines: full mesh side panels, drop-down co-sleeper side, adjustable heights, lockable swivel wheels, firm mattress, bedside safety straps, travel bag and a compact fold. Birth to 9kg. On features per dollar it is competitive with anything here.
The tilt incline is what costs it points. It is offered for reflux and congestion, but Australian safe-sleep guidance is a firm flat surface, and a bassinet marketed on its ability to tilt sits awkwardly against that. The other gap is certification: no standard is named, at the same $379 the Alfie2 charges.

6. UPPAbaby SOMA Smart Bassinet
$929. Award: Best smart bassinet.
The best airflow specification in this field. A breathable mesh mattress and premium mesh sidewalls, both washable, with the mattress and quilted cover coming apart for the machine. Five motions across five speeds, four sleep sounds, an 8-hour runtime and app control.
It is also $929 for a bed that lives in one room. Portability scores 5.0 because there effectively is none, and value 5.5 for the obvious reason. You are paying roughly two and a half Alfie2s for motion technology, and whether that motion works on your baby is not something a specification can tell you. Against the $1,995 Snoo it looks sane. Against the $699 Swan it looks dear.
For. Best-ventilated sleep surface here, five motions, 8-hour runtime, fully washable mesh mattress. Against. $929, stays in one room, and no spec sheet can promise the motion will work.

7. Britax Safe-n-Sound Aptana Bassinet
$299. Award: Best stroller bassinet.
A stroller bassinet, not a co-sleeper, included because the two get cross-shopped. It attaches to the Britax Safe-n-Sound Aptana stroller with no adapters, and fits nothing else. If you do not own that stroller, stop reading here.
If you do, this is the strongest pram bassinet specification per dollar in the pack. Complete lie-flat position, firm mattress with breathable interior fabrics, mesh ventilation panel, ventilated base, XL UPF50+ canopy, one-hand release and a flat fold. Birth to about six months, up to 9kg, and $170.95 under the Thule. Britax does not claim approved overnight sleep, so treat it as a daytime proposition.
For. $299, lie-flat, mesh ventilation panel and ventilated base, attaches without adapters. Against. Fits one stroller and nothing else, and makes no overnight-sleep claim.

8. Kaylula Co Sleeper Cradle, Grey
$449.
The Kaylula answers the co-sleeping question with an adjustable dropside rather than a zip-down wall. The side moves up or down depending on how close you want to be, and Babyhood’s instruction is to raise it once your baby is asleep and you are going to bed, so there is always a firm barrier. That is a clearer safety story than several rivals tell, and it relies on you following it.
Open panels give visibility both ways and are specified for full breathability. Adjustable legs set the cradle to your mattress height, and a safety strap attaches it to the slats of your bed base, with Australian parts and service behind it. The problem is $449, level with the Snuzpod 5 and $70 above the Alfie2, both of which score higher.
For. Adjustable dropside holds a firm barrier at every height, open panels for airflow and visibility, adjustable legs and a bed-base strap, Australian parts and service. Against. $449 puts it against two higher-scoring cribs, one $70 cheaper with a stronger certification story.

9. BabyRest Swan Smart Electric Bassinet
$699.
The sensible way to buy automated settling. A Smart Motion sensor starts the rocking when your baby stirs, with three intensities, lullabies with adjustable volume, a remote, four height positions, all-round mesh sides and a mattress BabyRest describes as Safer Sleep Tested.
That is most of the Snoo proposition at $1,296 less and most of the SOMA proposition at $230 less. Where it gives ground is the sleep surface: Safer Sleep Tested is BabyRest’s own language rather than a named standard. The listed price runs to $749 depending on finish, so $699 is the lowest listed Australian retail.
For. Stir-responsive rocking, all-round mesh, four heights, remote control, far cheaper than the smart bassinets above it. Against. No named sleep standard, and $699 for a feature you cannot evaluate before your baby meets it.

10. Thule Bassinet Soft Beige
$469.95.
Another stroller bassinet, specified for infants aged 0 to 6 months and built for all-terrain strolling: ventilated base, removable perforated mattress with a washable cover, a large extendable ventilated canopy with UPF 50+ protection, soft mesh inside and water-repellent rip-stop fabric outside.
Ventilation running through base, mattress and canopy is more thorough than most pram bassinets manage, and the fabric specification gives away what it is built for. There is no overnight-sleep claim anywhere in the listing, and at $469.95 it is $170.95 more than the Britax.

Every product is assessed on its published specification only. Nothing here has been hand-assembled, folded or slept in. Five criteria are scored out of 10 and roll up into the Bench Score:
- Sleep safety design. Firm flat surface, barrier design at the open side, stated weight and age limits, and whether the maker names a standard it complies with. A cited certification beats a reassuring adjective.
- Breathability and airflow. Mesh coverage, ventilated bases and mattresses, and whether the airflow claim is specific or decorative.
- Portability. Fold, wheels, carry bags, and whether the thing can leave the house.
- Build. Materials, warranty length, washability, and how much kit is included rather than sold separately.
- Value. The score against the price, in the context of the field.

Buyer’s notes
Look for the standard, not the word “safe”. The Consumer Goods (Infant Sleep Products) Safety and Information Standards 2024 is the thing to find on a product page. In this field of sixteen, exactly one listing names it. That does not make the others non-compliant, but you are taking the retailer’s word for something the Alfie2 puts in writing. Between two bassinets at the same price, the one that names the standard is your tie-break.
A bedside crib has to fit your bed, not your bedroom. Height adjustment range is the specification to check first. Where a crib here publishes a figure it is four or five positions, and if your mattress sits above the top setting you have bought an expensive standalone bassinet. Measure floor to mattress top before you order. The attachment strap anchors to the slats of your base, so a frame without accessible slats will not take one.
Flat is the default. Australian safe-sleep guidance is a firm, flat, separate surface, and the tilt offered here for reflux and congestion should be used only if a health professional has told you to. Babyhood makes the same point in its own product copy: no incline means no chin-to-chest risk.
Work out how long you actually need it. Almost everything here stops at 9kg or six months, and plenty of babies get there sooner than expected, which reframes the money. The cot is the purchase that lasts years, so it deserves the larger share of the budget. The Babyhood Sandton Sleigh Cradle takes the opposite approach at $329, converting into a rocking seat rated to 40kg for the longest use life in the pack, though solid timber sides cost it on airflow.
